EAA Chapter 690 will host one of the few flying Ford Tri-Motor aircraft on its 2008 visit to the Atlanta area. A classic aircraft from the early days of commercial air travel, the Ford Tri-Motor re-creates the romance of pre-jet air travel. The visit provides opportunities for aviation enthusiasts, grandparents, parents and kids alike to see and ride in the world’s first mass-produced airliner when the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) brings its restored 1929 Ford Tri-Motor airliner to Atlanta. The Tri-Motor will be available for a daily schedule of flights at Lawrenceville’s Briscoe Field from the Aircraft Specialists Jet Center (south side) ramp, on Briscoe Blvd., from mid-day Thursday, August 21st through Monday, August 25th. Scenic flights from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM.

LSA and the Baby Ace

Contact UsChapter Vice President Lee Olson has announced that the program for the Friday, April 11th Chapter meeting will be on The Baby Ace, a Light Sport Airplane with a distinguished and long history. O.G. "Ace" Corben designed and marketed the first homebuilt aircraft kit beginning in 1923; the famous "Baby Ace"; followed by the "Jr. Ace," the "Cabin Ace" and the beautiful "Super Ace!"

The Corben Aces have endured the tests of time thanks to successors like Paul Poberezny, Cliff DuCharne, Thurman Baird, Denny Meadows and others who have modernized and refined the designs over the years. These aircraft are still being built, flown and admired by those who find the past as exciting as the designs and materials of the present! (Historical information provided by the Corben Club.)
